Beginner Scale Mail Gloves
My beginner-friendly knitting pattern for scale mail gloves. Includes links to suggested resources for all the techniques used and guidance for getting started.

Characteristics
- Knit flat
- No shaping - uses only knit stitch and knit scale
- Sew up the side to finish
- Uses the Knit Scale Stitch (see free tutorial)
- Greyscale print friendly pattern and chart pages
Materials Required
- Small Scales - 300 for regular, 450 for long
- Imperial size: 9/16” x 7/8” with a 0.22” hole
- Metric size: 14.3mm x 22.2mm with a 5.6mm hole
- All examples shown made with small scales from theringlord.com (Canada)
- Most examples are annodised aluminium, though some use engineered plastic
- Bulky/Chunky weight yarn
- Look on the ball band for a gauge of 14 stitches, 20 rows with 6mm needles
- You will be working with smaller needles at a tighter gauge than this!
- If you prefer lighter, more flexible gloves, aran or even worsted yarn can be substituted with appropriate needles to maintain pattern gauge
